Happiness depends upon ourselves. ~Aristotle
An important lesson I learned about happiness is that you define it. You are able to create it; you have a choice to be happy.
Honestly, it wasn’t that easy for me to accept it before because how come I still feel unhappy and struggling to choose happiness? I only started to agree you define your happiness when I took time to think of what happiness means to me. I defined my happiness.
Every day, we are faced with a lot of reasons to be dissatisfied with our life. Things won’t go the way we want it or we don’t get what we want. And then there will be people we find it difficult to deal with. These scenarios often cause our stress and unhappiness, if we focus our attention to it. If we let the circumstance affect us from seeing the things or people that makes us happy.
What Does Happiness Means to You?
When I wrote down what happiness means to me, I was able to come up with a list. And the top 3 in my list are these:
- It is having an open and harmonious relationship with my best friend and partner in life, which is my husband.
- It is spending time with my baby, being able to play with him and see his development and growth as a healthy baby boy. It also makes me really happy whenever he smiles at me when he sees me around.
- It is being able to live the lifestyle that i want, doing the things I’m passionate about and making a difference to other people’s lives.
Whenever undesirable circumstances or difficult people exist in my day, I push myself to focus on the 3 things or people that make me happy so that the dissatisfaction won’t matter compared to the happiness that life brings.
How about you, what can make you happy? What does happiness means to you?
If you want to achieve happiness, first you need to define what happiness means to you. You can start by changing your perspective. Instead of looking at what you hate, start thinking of the things that excites you; people that you care about, or work that never exhaust you because you’re so passionate about it.
Remember that happiness is just around the corner. It’s up to you to define, see and feel it.
People are just as happy as they make up their minds to be. ~ Abraham Lincoln
