Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment. – Oprah Winfrey
Every day, we are given two choices:
(1) Keep a positive spirit to do our best; or
(2) Cling to negative emotion that will waste our day.
Most of us treat each day as the same; we see each day as ordinary like the rest. Commonly, it’s either we fill our day with negative stuff or we treat it bluntly with less or no enthusiasm. And as such, our life becomes ordinary with fewer fulfillments, that eventually, our life becomes boring.
Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success. ~ Dale Carnegie
The Story of a Carpenter
A story I recall that reminds me of the importance of doing my best each day is about an old carpenter.
Here’s a quick read of the said story:
The carpenter was already old and was about to retire from working as he told his employer of his plans to leave the house-building company to live a more relax life with his family. He knew he will miss the company, his work and paycheck, but he really need to retire.
His boss was sorry to see his diligent and loyal worker to go so he asked him if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter couldn’t say no, so he accepted to do the favor. However, it was apparent that his heart was not in his work. He carried out a lousy workmanship and even used inferior materials. It was not a gracious way to end a dedicated career.
When the carpenter finished his work, his boss came to inspect the house he built. He then handed the front-door key to the old carpenter.
“This is your house”, he said. “My gift for you.”
The carpenter was surprised. He was filled with regret. He thought if only he had known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently.
Are You Giving Your Best Each Day?
The story of the old carpenter will keep us reminded how important it is to do our best each day because today may be the day you’ve been waiting for.
If we do our best each day, we will be ready to grab the opportunity to be fulfilling our dreams, goals or wants when they finally knock our door. Then we won’t regret that we didn’t do our best and miss the opportunity.
Do your best every day and your life will gradually expand into satisfying fullness.
