Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Don't Sweat the Small StuffOne of the great sources of stress, worry, anxiety, depression, unhappiness, and all other negative emotions or feelings, is sweating over the small stuff.

Sweating on small stuff means you get to easily react, condemn and be emotional by unwanted circumstances with small relevance or effect. Also it can be when you are too fast in criticizing and complaining about the actions of other people that is not align to your beliefs. This kind of attitude is often caused by your negative thoughts and uncontrolled emotions.

To determine if you are easy to sweat over small stuff, observe how you response to daily circumstances in your life. How many times do you complain in a day? How often do you take notice and criticize of other people’s behavior?

If you find yourself complaining or criticizing more than once a day, then you are possibly falling in the syndrome of sweating over small stuff. This negative mental and emotional attitude of stressing over small stuff may form as part of your normal daily routine or habit that’s why you always feel stressed, anxious, tired and unhappy.

If you want to create a more stress-free, positive and happier life, it’s important that you take action in curing such negative behavior and habit. To help you cure your habit of stressing and sweating over small stuff, these are some of the possible way out:

1. Always shut off negative thoughts.

Remember the saying, like attracts like. It means if you think positive you attract positive, while if you think negative you attract negative. So if you want to attract positive things in your life, you need to practice shutting off negative thoughts and shift it to positive as often as you can.

2. Avoid negative people.

This is the hardest recommendation I can give because it’s not easy to do especially if negative people are your family, relatives, friends, or co-workers.  When I say avoid, spend lesser time with these negative people. It will be healthy for both of you since one person with negative attitude is better than two. Yet if you can’t avoid them, be the first to encourage them to think positive instead of you being influenced to think negative.

3. Control your emotions.

There’s a saying that those who are able to control their emotions are the ones who succeed and become more fulfilled in life.  Emotions are feelings such as happiness or sadness, excitement or fear, love or hate, etc.  The ability to control emotion is shown by having an unbiased and neutral emotion in any circumstance. As a result, you are still able to think clear and proper because you are not emotionally affected.

4. Keep busy on constructive things.

A very effective way to stop sweating over small stuff is to keep busy with productive things. Because when you are busy, you don’t have time to think and feel negative emotion. As they say, idle minds are the devils workshop. When you don’t have any productive things to do, the tendency is you’ll have time to criticize and condemn people or circumstance.

5. Meditate and reflect.

Another effective way to control your negative emotion is to meditate and reflect. Do yoga or other meditation techniques since these can aid you to have peace of mind that cures all the stress and negative emotions.

6. Focus on your priorities and goals.

Last but not the least; you can avoid sweating over small stuff by looking at the bigger picture, on the more important things. Invest your time and energy to your priorities and goals instead of the small and irrelevant stuff.
